Joe Root’s Unbeaten Century Helps England Dominate Windies On Day 3

Sigozar news

England captain Joe Root scored his 16th Test ton to guide his team to reach 325-4 at stumps on the third day of the third and final Test against the West Indies on Monday. Root scored 111 not out to put England in command with a solid 448-run lead in St Lucia.

The day started with 19-0 on board, before the tourists lost two early wickets of openers Rory Burns (10) and Keaton Jennings (23). However, the England batsmen cultivated runs throughout with Joe Denly (69) scoring his maiden Test half-century.

Root and Jos Buttler (56), who was bowled out by Kemar Roach, built a fourth-wicket partnership for the visiting team.

All-rounder Ben Stokes scored 29 unbeaten and accompanied his captain on the crease when the match was stopped for the day.

Seeking a consolation win after losing two previous matches, England are likely to declare on day four if their batsmen could find quick runs in the morning. They would make an attempt to bowl out the home side in a massive run chase competition.

Root’s century was third against the West Indies, assuring his consistency ahead of the upcoming five ODIs.
